The Water Erosion in the Myjava Upland, Slovakia
Original language description
Water erosion (together with human activities such as tillage erosion) is considered to be the most important factor behind the degradation of agricultural land. Many methods of measuring soil erosion processes, using mathematical models, have been developed in recent years, however USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation, Wishmeier and Smith, 1978) is the most widespread of these. Modifications of USLE have been used as the basis for new erosion methods – RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation, Renard et al. 1997) and USPED (Unit Stream Power-Based Erosion/Deposition model, Mitášová et al. 1996). The ArcGIS software was used for calculation of each model (taking advantage of the ModelBuilder platform to create model structure). WATEM/SEDEM (Van Rompaey et al. 2001; Van Oost et al. 2000; Verstraeten et al. 2002) has been utilized to study erosion and deposition processes in comparison with above-mentioned methods. The research was applied to small experimental rural area of the Myjava Upland in Slovakia.
