Are natural products effective alternatives to synthetic repellents?
Original language description
The tick-borne infections are common arthropod-borne diseases in humans and animals, with no exception in both Poland and the Czech Republic. One way to keep nuisance arthropods away from people and animals and to avoid tick-borne infections is the use of repellents. In this study we tested the responses of the locally-captured ticks (Ixodes ricinus L.) to selected plant essential oils as potential repellents. The results of the study show that selected natural products have a significant potential to repel ticks and can be considered as an effective alternative to synthetic repellents.
