Two-photon absorption laser-induced fluorescence measurement of atomic hydrogen in discharges and flames induced at atmospheric pressure
Original language description
Atomic hydrogen radicals were measured in various discharges and flames ignited at atmospheric pressure by means of two-photon absorption laser-induced fluorescence (TALIF). In order to use this method, several complications had to be solved, for example interaction between laser beam and solid surfaces (which leads to laser scattering, fluorescence of the solid material and emission of adsorbed electrons), fast quenching of the excited state or partial saturation of the fluorescence process. The TALIF method was used in various dielectric barrier discharges including both the volume and surface DBD and it was confirmed that the contraction of the DBD to a surface discharge increases the concentration of radical species. The (TA)LIF was further used for detection of various radical species in atomizers, devices used in analytical chemistry for dissociation of various volatile compounds. It was confirmed that atomic hydrogen radicals play the key role in the atomization of studied species, especially of volatile hydrides.
