Geochemistry and Sr–Nd–Pb isotope signature of Miocene basaltic–trachytic series from the Uherský Brod area: an example of volcanic rocks from transitional zone between the Carpathian–Pannonian region and the Bohemian Massif

  • Original language description

The Uherský Brod area volcanism in the Czech Republic is partly spatially associated with the Klippen Zone situated in the proximity to the contact of the Carpathian–Pannonian region with the Bohemian Massif. The Miocene volcanic rocks from the Uherský Brod area form a basaltic–andesitic–trachytic differentiation series generated by fractional crystallization and magmatic assimilation. The compositional characteristics of this rock series straddle the line dividing alkaline and subalkaline volcanic rocks, while the coeval andesites from the Pieniny area in Poland are of calc-alkaline character. The distribution of incompatible elements of the andesitic rocks from the Uherský Brod and Pieniny areas differs substantially. Basaltic–andesitic–trachytic series from the Uherský Brod area lack crustal isotope component characterised by low 143Nd/144Nd along with very high 87Sr/86Sr and 207Pb/204Pb initial values, which is sampled by orogenic Miocene andesitic rocks from the Carpathian–Pannonian region. On the other hand, the rocks from the UB area resemble (including trace element composition) the alkaline Miocene volcanic rock series of the Cheb–Domažlice Graben in the Bohemian Massif.
