Towards a new generation authentication token
Original language description
We argue in this paper for the need to introduce a new type of hardware device which helps the customer to gain the control over financial and other remotely executed transactions. This paper first presents authentication mechanisms used in the area of financial transactions, and discusses security issues of the presented mechanisms. We arrived at the conclusion that currently used authentication mechanisms protect mainly the bank and merchant interests, but not the customer. Existing authentication mechanisms can be easily extended by suggested hardware device and provide the customer with the ability to see, verify and then either confirm or cancel the transaction in question.
