On the role of some interactive D-items in different genres of spoken English
Original language description
Based on the analysis of three different genres of spoken English taken from LLC, the author tries to contribute to the study of some interactive D-items, namely you know, you see and I mean, as response elicitors. These items, frequetly used to enhancethe smooth flow of spoken interaction, are studied with regard to what they prompt from the current hearer. It becomes evident that the kind of reaction D-items prompt depends on their particular discourse function and the overall character of the speechsituation in the given genre.
