The contribution presents a long-term research taking place at the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, Brno and At the Department of English, University of Technology, Chemnitz. It deals with the notion of the foreign accent in English, focusing mainly on advanced Czech and partly on advanced German learners of English.The goal is to contribute to a better definition of the classroom standard of English and constitutive features of Czech accent of English in comparison with the German accent with a special emphasis on items found obtrusive by native speakers of English.
