The landforms associated with industrial placer gold mining in Siberia

  • Original language description

Industrial placer gold mining creates specific montane relief shapes. The character of these land forms is influenced by the mining technology used, the management of the site and the mining area, the organization of the work and the subsequent measures after the termination of mining. The paper provides a brief overview of current gold mining in the world. Attention is paid to explaining why gold placer is related to the displacement of large volumes of material, which leads to the formation of indented and elevated relief shapes. The literature review is formulated in general and deals with the landforms associated with the mining of raw materials. Available classifications of known landforms can also be applied to shapes created during placer gold mining. However, in the studied area in the upper catchment area of the Indigirka and Kolyma rivers, shapes were found that have not yet been described in geomorphology. They differ from the landforms known from locations in the Yukon in Canada. The montane shapes of the relief created during the industrial placer gold mining in Siberia are documented by figures based on the facts and pictures collected in the field.
