    BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA) was defined in a worldwide scientific community as one of the most important factors in dealing with issues of prevention and public health. Regular PA has positive effects on the quality of life and prolonging the period of active old age. Central European countries within the former ?communist bloc? exhibit socioeconomic specifics that need to be addressed in the research of physical activity. AIM: The aim of the study was to analyze physical activity of adult population of the South-Moravian area of the Czech Republic (Regions of South Moravia and Zlín) in terms of different socioeconomic status. RESULTS: Males reported significantly higher total PA than females. There are significant differences in the intensity of PA both between males and females and according to socio-economic status. Total of 40.8 % of respondents met the physical activity recommendations.
