The impact of the dance intervention on motor abilities in the elderly

  • Original language description

Physical activity has undoubtedly a lot of physical and mental health outcomes. Dance has the big potential to be an attractive physical activity. Also it can be adjusted to meet the needs of the elderly. The aim of this study is to find out the impact of the dance intervention to chosen motor abilities in the healthy elderly (HE) and the elderly with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).Dance intervention program had a positive effect on the level of aerobic endurance and lower-body strength when MCI respondents improved to the same level as a healthy group. Dancing program had no impact on the level of dynamic balance and agility.Although the differences in the measured group of respondents are statically insignificant we still see an improvement in the level of motor skills. For the monitored group of elderly even small progress is considered to be a good result. However, we can´t ignore the unsupervised parameters, especially the changes in the social perception and behavior of the participants in the experimental group. We can discuss how social interaction established during the intervention program can affect the quality of life in seniors.
