Efficiency factors in municipal solid waste management
Original language description
Presented paper examines factors influencing the efficiency of municipal solid waste management. The efficiency was evaluated in two models using two-stage Data Envelopment Analysis on the sample of 463 Czech municipalities. Both models had the expenditure set as input. Outputs in the models were the population, number of dwellings and area with provided service of waste management, amount of separated waste and separated waste share on total municipal waste. Calculated efficiency scores were then usedin a regression analysis with various municipal characteristics related to solid waste management. We have identified significant positive effects on the efficiency in the case of several characteristics like the waste collection frequency, the presenceof a bin evidence system, the availability of a curbside collection, or the availability of a motivation program for waste separation.
