In many branches of the national economy, innovations are among the key factors of long-term growth. The sectors of economy that can successfully absorb innovations gain competitive edges with their market share and profit increasing. Production of electronic equipment, communication technologies, and information services as well as chemical production and car industry rank foremost among the most innovative sectors in Europe. The paper identifies the factors of successful innovative companies and evaluates the position of the Czech Republic among the EU countries in terms of the innovative performance.
