The goal of the submitted dissertation “Total Factor Productivity in the Member States of the European Union – The Role of Selected Labour Market Institutions” is to determine the effects of selected labour market institutions on the development of total factor productivity in the member states of the European Union. The empirical analysis is designed to provide answers to three research questions that specify in more detail the research goal. A productivity equation augmented by institutions is derived as the baseline model and extended in three ways. The findings provide evidence for the importance of labour market institutions in determining the growth of total factor productivity across numerous specifications even after accounting for indirect channels, institutional interactions, and differences in technological development across the member states of the European Union.
