The topic of the paper is the perception of potential benefits of the planned construction of high-speed rail / HSR in the Czech Republic for the competitive and sustainable development of rail transport, with special regard to the current priorities of the Common transport policy of the European Union. In this context, the main attention is paid to the analysis of the impacts of the construction of HSR on the economic and social integration of the relevant regions (with a particular emphasis on the transnational level) and on the environmental component of their development.
