Bucharest Nine: a United Effort to Strengthen Security on the Eastern Flank of NATO
Original language description
The paper analyzes the defense measures of the members of the Bucharest Nine (B9) security grouping, as well as the responses to security threats from Russia in the context of changes in the security environment in Europe after the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces in 2022. The research is based on an analysis of military equipment and uses data from the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Military Balance+ database and the Global Militarization Index (GMI) from the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC). The analysis assesses the evolution of military equipment, military spending, and the overall military strength index in each B9 member to provide insights into their defence capabilities and responses to security challenges.
