Capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (CE-ESI-MS) is becoming a very powerful tool utilized not only in academic research but also in industrial applications. This overview covers mainly the research published in the past decade and is divided into two main parts. Since the crucial parameter of the CE-MS is the interface design, the first part of this chapter covers the instrumentation developments. The second part covers selected applications of the CE-ESI-MS in the field of proteomics, glycomics and metabolomics.
