This paper briefly discusses the possibilities of the application of three-dimensional technologies, especially 3D scanning and subsequent data evaluation, in the field of historical monument restoration. The article presents several case studies focused on the application of 3D technologies and dealing with issues related to the restoration of cultural heritage objects. The experimental part discusses the topic of blind-tooled decorations of historical book bindings and issues related to their documentation. Preliminary results of a case study focused on 3D documentation of blindtooled decorations of selected works of art are discussed in detail.
