Renaissance and Mannerist Stucco North of the Alps: Interdisciplinary Research
Original language description
The book presents the topic of Renaissance stucco in the wider region north of the Alps through various insights of interdisciplinary research. Although it is the "interdisciplinarity" that connects all the parts, the publication is divided into five sections based on the thematic focus of the individual chapters - art history, materiality, 20th century perspective, restoration and catalogue. Each of the chapters is the result of interdisciplinary research, and as a whole the book presents the topic of Renaissance stucco from the perspective of traditional art history, technology, and research on the history of restoration. From a methodological perspective, "Art History" includes iconographic studies and contributions based on archival research and formal analysis set in a broader context. "Materiality" is presented with a cultural-historical perspective on a material-specific type of monuments and with studies presenting a comprehensive survey of monuments with an emphasis on technology and material analysis. "Twentieth Century Perspectives" offers a view of historical material through its "second life" in both the history of research and the history of preservation. The "Restoration" section presents the issues of restoration of Renaissance stucco over a long time horizon from historical interventions to the present. The final chapter - an inventory of Renaissance stucco monuments in our territory, supplemented by a methodological introduction of art historical topography - contains a basic overview of the material created on the basis of an area survey, which in general terms represents a solid foundation for any in-depth research focused on one type of monument.
