Teaching and Learning Linguistics through Halliday's Functional Approach
Original language description
The paper tries to suggest how Halliday's Functional Grammar might be incorporated into the linguistic module aimed at future English teachers. Apart from becoming familiar with a very influential linguistic school, students might benefit from the functional approach employed, consolidate or extend their knowledge gained in various linguistic disciplines. Since Halliday?s description of language in context is based on three functions performed simultaneously by the clause, this approach might help students realize what is actually done or expressed when a clause is uttered and what part(s) of the clause contribute(s) to expressing a particular meaning.
