Original language description
Much has been said about the role of religion, religious conversion, secularism and Hindu pluralism in India. The article on meditation school Vipassana of S. N. Goenka is a preliminary study on the coexistence of the concepts (religion, religious conversion) and processes (McDonaldization) associated with modernity and non-modern concepts. The aim of this study is to analyse the way modern influences are being dealt with by this particular school, i.e. by the founder of the school and his Indian audience, and to draw broader conclusions about their effects. One reason I chose thr school of Vipassana was that it was strongly influenced by different aspects of modernity and at the same time it was designed for the Indian audience. Another reason was theposition of Vipassana between Buddhism and Hinduism, as it was established by a former Hindu leader for Indians and based on the teachings of his Burmese Buddhist meditation teacher, which enables us to reconsider the legitimacy of postu
