Comenius' Concept of Politics
Original language description
Comenius reflects on politics in connection with the theological claim on the reform of mankind. This reform of mankind is the outcome of the contest to restore the image of God in man. With Comenius, the measure of rational politics is always this theological claim. Comenius mentions many representatives of GrecoRoman Antiquity and of the modern period in addition to biblical authors. Comenius' intention to bring man to reasonably led politics is in fact an educational task. Like Plato, Comenius puts the issue of politics sub specie educationis. However, as a thinker of the whole, Comenius knows well that philosophy, piety and politics are complementary and that they therefore cannot be discussed without mutual consideration.
