The involvement of Bohemian and Moravian aristocrats in the officer corps of the Habsburg army during the main military campaigns, ca. 1680-1740
Original language description
Modem historians accept regular and professional armies as one of the most important attributes of the early modem state. Moreover, the imperial army used to constitute one of the elementary features that held the multi-national state of the Habsburg monarchy together. However, surprisingly, we still lack systematic research that would connect the changes in the warfare of those times with the history of early modem aristocracy (the other "pillar" of the monarchy) in the (not only) Czech historiography. The paper will focus on the importance of military service in the regular state army in the frame of aristocratic career strategies. More significantly: by using of a "statistical" research method, I will try to summarize in an elementary way the involvement of the Bohemian and Moravian aristocracy in the structures ofthe Habsburg army.
