The international conference Splendid Encounters 5: Diplomats and Diplomacy in the Early Modern World focused on the evolution of diplomatic practice as both a career and an identity, not only through the lives of ambassadors, residents, agents, and consuls, but also secretaries and other members of embassies in administrative and bureaucratic roles. The conference consisted of one keynote lecture (prof. Bernardo García, Spain) and 31 contributions in three days. People from 13 European countries took part.The conference was completed by three excursions (Clam-Gallas Palace, Hradčany and Lesser Town, Troja Chateau).
