From the Czech Silver Thaler to the US Dollar
Original language description
This exhibition wishes to familiarise you by means of the historical tender with the dollar currency’s family history, which has already lasted for almost half a millennium. Currently, at the beginning of the 21st Century, dollars represent the most widely used monetary currency unit in the world. The forerunner in common of all the dollars, the name of which this currency bears, first saw the light of day in a deep forest gorge in the northwest of today’s Czech Republic in Central Europe. This came about based on a resolution of the Lands Diet of the Kingdom of Bohemia that was agreed on the 9th January 1520. This day can be considered to have defined the symbolic beginning of all the dollars of our world today.
