Imperial Chapels and Chaplains: A Comparative Study of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Dresden in the Later Seventeenth Century
Original language description
In this study, the authors attempt to summarise the research completed so far regarding the functioning of imperial legation chapels in the primarily Lutheran capitals of Copenhagen, Dresden, and Stockholm in the second half of the 17th century. They compare the chapels’ formation and development and point out what problems they faced from the part of the host country. Taking into consideration the personalities of the legation chaplains, the authors also analyse the conflicts that the clergy caused through their activities inside and outside the embassy. In this extent and focus, no European scholar has dealt with this topic before.
