While its supporters argue that it corrects longstanding historical omissions, critics contend that it distorts history and undermines national unity. The controversy surrounding the 1619 Project reflects deeper cultural and ideological divides, which have transformed US history education into a battleground for contemporary culture wars. This article examines the origins, reception, and broader implications of this historical dispute, situating it within the context of American political and cultural polarization.
