FTIR study on the interaction of crotyl alcohol and crotonic acid with SiO2, TiO2 and ZrO2

  • Original language description

The adsorption of crotyl alcohol and crotonic acid on SiO2, TiO2 and ZrO2 has been studied by FTIR spectroscopy. Crotyl alcohol was adsorbed mainly in a less stable molecular form (hydrogen-bonded crotyl alcohol) on the surfaces. The more stable surfacecompound (alkoxide) was also found during crotyl alcohol adsorption at room temperature on SiO2, TiO2, resp. ZrO2. Crotonaldehyde and consequently carboxylate were products of reaction between crotyl alcohol and active sites of ZrO2 surface at higher temperatures. During crotonic acid adsorption were indicated undissociated acid molecules and the formation of hydrogen-bonded acid with surface hydroxyls for all the studied oxides. Crotonic acid was easily dissociated to form the surface carboxylate species on ZrO2.

    FTIR studie interakcí krotylalkoholu a kyseliny krotonové s SiO2, TiO2 a ZrO2
