Modification of W/O Emulsions by Demilitarized Composition B.
Original language description
A series of W/O emulsion explosives contg. 30-50 wt% of the demilitarized mixt. RDX/TNT (Compn. B 50/50) was prepd. Detonation velocities and relative explosive strengths of these mixts. were detd. and their detonation characteristics were calcd. according to the EU std. methods for com. explosives. Thermal reactivities of the most reactive components of these W/O mixts. were examd. by means of DTA and outputs were analyzed by the Kissinger method. The reactivities, expressed as the slopes of the Kissinger relation, correlate with the squares of the detonation velocities of the corresponding explosive mixts. It was found that fortification of the W/O emulsions by this mixt. RDX/TNT allows modification of detonation velocities of the resulting emulsionexplosives within relatively broad limits. However, the effect of this admixt. on the relative explosive strength is not well defined. fortification in this sense can give rock-blasting explosives with a performance on the level of indust
