Evaluation of coatings based on binders with low voc value containing zero / reduced content of zinc
Original language description
The aim of study is to find an adequate replacement of pigments based on zinc phosphates by zinc-free or low-zinc pigments suitable for the application in water-borne and/or high-solids paints. Water-based coatings containing strontium-zinc phosphosilicate showed the highest anticorrosive efficiency compared to phosphate-based pigments in the course of accelerated corrosion tests. Significant results were obtained also in the case of alkyd coatings of Ca-Sr and Sr-Zn phosphosilicates that showed excellent corrosion efficiency in salt spray chamber and very good efficacy during the exposure in second corrosion chamber as well as phosphate pigments. This indicates that phosphosilicate applied in water-borne or high-solids binders can provide good corrosion protection in comparison to traditional anticorrosive pigments containing zinc.
