    In the study the effect of an ultrasonically assisted outside-in dead-end submerged hollow fiber microfiltration on membrane fouling and rejection of TiO2 particles were investigated. The extent of fouling caused by TiO2 particles deposition forming cakelayer on the surface of the membrane was measured in terms of suction pressure and turbidity variations. Periodical backflush with the peremate could provide effective removal of TiO2 fouling cake layer between filtration cycles. Results also indicate that the long- time operating below the sustainable flux could prevent the irreversible cake layer formation without chemical cleaning.
