Glucomannan Hydrogels for Agrochemical Utilization
Original language description
Hydrogels based on modified glucomannan were prepared and characterized for potential use at plant nutrition and soil moisture regulation. As a source material glucomannan was used, which is a natural polysaccharide composed of repeating glucose and mannose units in a specific molar ratio. Glucomannan is obtained from the Amorphophallus konjac plant, which is grown mainly in the southeastern part of Asia. Preparation of hydrogels was carried out by crosslinking of glucomannan using fosforylating agentsforming a three-dimensional network. As the agents, trisodium trimethaphosphate, pentasodium tripolyphosphate, and different dicarboxylic acids were used. Physicochemical properties were studied for prepared glucomannan hydrogels, such as swelling in water and saturated solutions of (NH4)2SO4 and urea, the rate of swelling and drying, the dependence of solubility on the temperature and number of swelling cycles. The nutrient content in the hydrogel swollen in saturated solutions of (NH4)
