Electrochemical Behavior of Nicotine at Unmodified Carbon Paste Electrode and Its Determination in a Set of Refilling Liquids for Electronic Cigarettes

  • Original language description

In this manuscript, a carbon paste electrode (CPE) from traditional components has been used for studying of electrochemical oxidation of nicotine and its feasibility to be performed at unmodified and otherwise untreated carbon paste in an effort to propose a simple voltammetric method for the determination of nicotine in samples of refilling liquids for electronic cigarettes. As found out, irreversible oxidation of nicotine at CPE had occurred at +0.95 V vs. Ag/AgCl as a diffusion-controlled process, when suitable pH for this redox transformation was either a neutral supporting medium (phosphate buffer, pH 7.5) or mild alkaline solution (of Britton-Robinson buffer, pH 11). After having chosen the SWV mode and optimizing the key instrumental and electroanalytical parameters, the oxidation response of the substance of interest has been fairly proportional to concentration in the range of 50-500 mýmol?L-1 in phosphate buffer or even 50-1000 mýmol?L-1 in Britton-Robinson buffer. And if th
