A series of plate-impact experiments were conducted using the large-bore single-stage light-gas gun at Imperial College London to characterize the shock response of a large aggregate concrete. A reverberation plate-impact technique employing an array ofoptical velocimetry probes was used to measure Hugoniot data and subsequent release states for peak stresses in the range 2-11 GPa. Additionally, concrete Hugoniot data was also measured using small-scale explosive loading experiments over the same stress range, demonstrating the feasibility of such an approach. The measured data are compared with results from previous studies.
