Problems in Usability of Web-Based GIS
Original language description
Web-based geographic information systems (GIS) are mostly focused on casual end users, i.e. on people who may have only a very limited knowledge of GIS, if any. Their computer literacy can be very low as well. This is why Web-based GIS applications should be designed very carefully and with a strong focus on their usability. This paper deals with a usability testing of Web-based GIS by means of heuristic evaluation. Applications of all regioanl authorities in CR were evaluated. Usability problems whichwere identified during usability testing of selected Web-based GIS applications are described. In the end, there are proposed several actions and techniques how to limit usability problems.
