    Public Spaces Transformation in Central European Transition Economy

    There came a very turbulent period in the Central and Eastern Europe in the 90's of the 20th century. Political changes brought also new attitudes of the cities inhabitant to their neighborhoods. As the communist city downtowns lost their beauty from thefirst decades of the 20th century and felt into the grayness, one of the first steps of the local governments led to downtowns reconstructions. It was supported by the national government by its subsidy politics. But many cities, towns and villages wentonly half way of the public spaces revitalization. The first step ? physical reconstruction of public spaces ? was not supplemented by the respect to new needs and circumstances that modern city has to face to. The paper is focused on the problematic ofthe public spaces in the mid-size cities (in European scale ca. 100 thousand inhabitants). It deals with public spaces hierarchy in the cities and with the problematic of reconstruction of the spaces in time. In the practical part it sho
