Modelling Knowledge Spillovers via Collaboration between Creative Employees
Original language description
Creativity and innovativeness represent key factors in obtaining competitive advantage, especially in creative industries. Fast growing creative enterprises employ creative workers, but this process is expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, they oftenacquire creative skills from external sources, including freelancers, consultants, and other independent enterprises. Here we argue that knowledge spill-over effects are formed via collaboration between internal and external creative workers. We used theEU Community Innovation Survey data for Czech enterprises to show that these effects positively affect innovation activity in creative industries. This result demonstrates the synergistic effect of knowledge that internal and external employees bring tothe enterprise. In fact, we did not observe a direct effect of creative skills on the ability to innovate. In contrast, this effect was always indirect, requiring collaboration internal and external employees.
