Modelling the Innovation Performance of Chemical Firm Using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps
Original language description
Uncertainty in relationships can be taken into account utilizing the fuzzy logic framework. Here, we show that innovation performance modelling can be effectively performed for chemical firms using fuzzy cognitive maps. Using real-world data, we demonstrate the evolving patterns of various scenarios. These simulations indicate a strong convergence of the main concepts (cooperation, innovation and sales). However, this can be attributed to various determinants. We also show that, respectively, internal and external knowledge acquisition and internal and government R&D intensity play important roles in innovation performance modelling. Here, we argue that an FCM with a hyperbolic tangent activation function realistically simulates the intrinsic characteristics of the innovation process. We show that firm and government R&D expenditures are important direct (and indirect) drivers of innovation (and sales). We also demonstrate that cooperation on innovation activity is the critical vehicle
