The importance of benchmarking for business practice is in the long-term confirmed by numerous surveys, but there has not been any survey about the utilization of benchmarking in Czech Republic performed. The paper investigates the attitude of enterprises operating in Czech Republic towards benchmarking. Literature review about evolution, typology and trends of benchmarking was carried out. Subsequently a survey analyzing the use of benchmarking and benchmarking types in Czech Republic was accomplished.The paper outlines the overall characteristics of studied enterprises and contrasts them with research results of consulting companies APQC, Bain and Co. and APQC. The paper is trying to answer the question how much is benchmarking used nowadays and whether it is needed to propose a new way to do benchmarking.
