Chapter 10 - Digital finance in circular economy using decision support systems
Original language description
The benefits of circular economy (CE) in sustainable logistics systems are the increase in customer service efficiency and reduction of waste flows. One of the requirements for addressing some of the many issues of CE is to facilitate the implementation of digital technologies, which offer many advantages in the realization of sustainable logistics activities. Digital technologies satisfy CE imperatives by minimizing potential financial expenses, minimizing product and packaging damage, operating without human interaction, providing a high level of resilience during failures, maximizing reusability, etc. Many decision support systems (DSSs) have been developed to deal with diverse problems of digital finance on CE under sustainable development. The state-of-the-art DSSs are surveyed. Unfortunately, the existing DSSs are unable to handle real-world implementation challenges under uncertain environments. As a result, this chapter provides an advanced DSS for digital finance implementation on CE in logistics systems. The real-life study illustrates its practical applicability, as well as offers comprehensive practical insights. The critical advantages of digital technologies for long-term CE requirements are taken into account. The sensitivity analyses confirm the high robustness of the proposed DSS. The comparative investigation demonstrates that the introduced DSS is superior to the extant methods. Finally, this chapter provides extensive recommendations for future research on digital finance on CE.
