Evaluation of cargo bike program for parcel deliveries in a medium-sized city

  • Original language description

City logistics is undergoing a transformative shift towards sustainability and efficiency. The environmental impacts of traditional delivery methods, coupled with urbanization, have driven the investigation of alternatives, including eco-friendly transportation modes. Among these, electric cargo bikes have emerged as a promising solution to reduce carbon emissions and congestion. This article delves into this case by evaluating a delivery service using electric cargo bikes using empirical data analysis, route optimization, and simulation. The findings support the strategic integration of electric cargo bikes with urban logistics hubs, enhancing the overall efficiency of last-mile deliveries. This research contributes to sustainable urban freight transport, providing information to city authorities, logistics operators, and policymakers. By establishing a robust framework for the deployment of electric cargo bikes in medium-sized cities, the study underscores the importance of innovative and sustainable solutions in transforming urban freight systems, aligning with global sustainability goals and improving urban livability.
