The natural self-purification processes in soil and water environment are utilised in wetlands for treatment of waste and surface water. The contribution briefly describes determination of oxygen regime in reed bed waste water treatment plant, methodology of monitoring and removing of ammonia from filtration field and its aplication on the reed bed waste water treatment plant in village of Rudikov. This contribution also deals with clogging of porous filtration medium used in reed bed treatment plants,methods of determination, influence of clogging on filtration attributes of filtration medium and outlines the laboratory research. As a result of the research, new equipment of reed bed treatment plants second generation is proposed, in which some problems of wetland operation are solved.
