Verification and transparency of the reliability level resulting from the specified criteria for steel member design
Original language description
This paper deals with problems of verification and transparency of the reliability levelresulting from the specified (code) regulations and criteria for the design of steel structures. In fact, the actual reliability of structural members and componentsis not clearly evident from the design procedures. Moreover, considering consequent reliability, the presented illustrative probabilistic study of steel compression member shows, that the allowable stress design concept and the LRFD (limit states) designconcept constitute not really different approaches, as often exaggereted. The studies and analysis on actual reliability level, thatproceeds from design code provisions, could contribute (i) to better understanding of commonly used standard and (ii) tothe advancement and improvement of design specification and code clauses based on statistical and probabilistic approaches.
