Quarrying, processing and application of Cretaceous Sandstones in Moravian region in the Czech Republic

Sandstones are traditional rocks used as building stone and ornamental rock in the Czech Republic. Cretaceous sandstones were formed in two formations: platform unit regionally called Bohemian Cretaceous Basin and flysch formation of Carpathian orogeny.Carpathian sandstones were quarried in many places in the North-eastern Moravia and their colour is typically - green grey caused by glauconite. Quarrying and processing of these rocks were always in relation to construction practice requirements in wider area of source localities. The paper deals with qualitative assessment of rock material from the point of view of its primary properties. It also evaluates history and present of quarrying and processing and on selected examples (from the past and present) the paper documents application of Carpathian sandstones as building stones including assessment of their durability under aggressive outer environment. Těžba, zpracování a použití karpatských křídových pískovců na Moravě v České republice.

Czech description

Pískovce jsou tradičními horninami používanými jako stavební a dekorační kameny v České republice. Křídové pískovce byly vytvořeny ve dvou geologických formacích české křídové pánvia flyšové formaci Západních Karpat. Karpatské pískovce byly půvdně těženyna mnoha místech na severozápadní Moravě. Jednalo se o zelenošedé, glaukonittové pískovce. Těžba a zpracování těchto pískovců vždy probíhalo na základě požadavků praxe v okolí produkčních lomů. Článek se zabývá kvalitativním zhodnocením horninového materiálu. Rovněž je zhodnocena historie a současnost těžby a zpracování pískovců včetně příkladů jejich požití jako stavebních a dekoračních kamenů.
