    Concretes based on alkali activated slag exhibit a very good resistance against exposure to high temperatures. However, the mechanical properties of such composites strongly depend on the type of aggregate. Artificial thermally stabilized aggregates withlow extensibility such as electrical porcelain and vermiculite appeared to be desirable ones. In this study we tried to improve the properties of alkali activated slag material using chamotte as a heat resistant aggregate. We have examined the influenceof aggregate on the behavior of the composite during heat loading to 1200 C and the mechanical properties after high temperature exposure. The microstructure was investigated by mercury intrusion porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy.
