Finite Element Methods for Sensitivity Analysis of Stability Problems of Steel Plane Frames
Original language description
The influence of initial imperfections on the steel plane frame static ultimate load is studied. The theoretical analysis is based on a geometrical non-linear finite element method, the steel plane frame being modelled by means of beam elements. In general, all these components of imperfections are random quantities. Therefore a purely deterministic approach when determining their influence on the structure response cannot be considered to be perfect. The influence of the variance of initial imperfections on the variance of the load-carrying capacity studied will be calculated by sensitivity analysis. Material and geometrical characteristics of steel members IPE are considered to be random quantities the histograms of which were obtained from experiments. The sensitivity analysis results show that the existence of interaction effects of initial imperfections belongs among important features of models. Imperfections that have a dominant influence on the load-carrying capacity of the fra
