The paper presents a numerical study of the mechanical response of a pre-stressed monoblock railway sleeper subjected to a standardized static loading test according to European Standards for railway applications. Most attention is paid to the predictionof the distribution and widths of cracks evolving at the sleeper's surface in dependence on the applied load, which can aid the quality inspection process for pre-tensioned sleepers at production plants. Numerical analyses are performed in the 3D version of commercial FE code ATENA. Several variants of FE mesh are considered in the analyses. Results are compared to experimental data.
