Comparison of shallow foundation according to the partial safety factor method and the full probabilistic method
Original language description
In the context of transforming to new design codes for assessment of civil engineering structures, the current topic is designing according to Eurocodes (EC). The engineering community discusses and organizes lectures focused of this issue. These lectures are very often focused on the problems concerning just the differences between the current designing methodology and designing according to EC. Even though the methodology of EC is termed as probabilistic, it is important to realize that the target reliability level is to be achieved by using a system of partial safety factors. They are entering the calculation algorithm as given fixed values and the calculation itself is, in fact, deterministic. Refinement of the calculation in terms of more accuratereliability estimates (quantified using the failure probability) necessitates a truly probabilistic framework - the fully probabilistic computation. In the report, the fully probabilistic calculation will be illustrated to a wide profess
