Numerical simulations of tests on atypical specimens for estimation of fracture parameters of quasi brittle materials

  • Original language description

The work deals with a numerical analysis of fracture propagation in atypical test specimens (made of material with quasi-brittle manner) subjected to a novel test configuration. The aim is to select suitable test geometries and specimen shapes/sizes for future studies and real tests. The tests will be simulated in ATENA 2D software enabling modeling of cohesive crack propagation. The test specimens/geometries should represent wide line of different shapes: from compact specimens (like WST) to long ones (3PB) which should considerably differ in constraint conditions. The same type of loading will be used for the whole specimen/geometry set - a wedge mechanism causing splitting the test specimen (apart from compressing/bending of the specimen in the direction perpendicular to the splitting forces). The specimens shapes/test configurations selected for the real testing will be further numerically analyzed in detail in order to investigate the stress and displacement fields in the cracked bodies. So, a pa
