Advanced methods of strengthening RC members – Near surface mounted FRP reinforcement mounted FRP reinforcement

  • Original language description

Near surface mounted reinforcement (NSM reinforcement) brings an additional increase of bearing capacity of the element while keeping its original shape (cross-section). The maximal utilization of effective height of the element is reached thanks to properties of used FRP reinforcement and its position in the strengthened cross-section. As a part of the proceeded research work at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology, number of numerical and experimental studies was made. The aimed was to verify the theoretical predictions by using the newly developed hybrid FRP reinforcement based on carbon and glass fibers as NSM reinforcement. Experimental work was dealing with "passive" and "active" techniques of strengthening in the field of NSMR in the past. The simply tensioning device has been developed for the implementation "active" strengthened NSM reinforcement - ie. it allows making additional prestressing of beam elements with embedded NSM reinforcement. The article will be dealing with carried out experimental work. Obtained results will be compared with numerical simulations and with simplified analytical calculations.
