INFLUENCE OF CONCRETE COVER ON THE ANCHORING LENGTH OF FRP REINFORCEMENT

  • Original language description

Several years ago a new FRP reinforcement system was developed at Brno University of Technology. During the following years this system was refined to maximise its benefits and to lower the initial costs related to FRP materials. There was a special focus on anchoring and the development of a pre-stressed reinforcement length. A large number of surfacing types were tested to find the best cohesion between reinforcement bars and concrete. The gained results were gathered and analysed using a bond-slip relationship to describe the behaviour of a reinforcement bar along the anchoring length. This principle served as a basis for creating analytical relations suited to the calculation of the minimal required anchoring length of reinforcement. However, these relations do not cover the influences of either the surfacing of the bar or the thickness of the concrete cover. To factor these influences into the calculation a new extension was proposed. First, a number of numerical models were created to verify the proposed design equations in theory. The obtained results are within the range predicted by the analytical solution. As the final confirmation of the equation a set of real-world tests was performed. The final conclusion and a comparison between the real tests and the analytical and numerical solutions can be found at the end of the article.
